PDO Bierzo

PDO Bierzo, with 3,683 ha, 70 wineries and 4,210 wine growers, is a remarkable wine-growing region, showing increasing yields.

In the last decade it has undergone an immense process towards the specialization in red and white wines, through native varieties such as the Mencía (for red wines) and the Godello (for white ones).

The mild and rainy climate allows for the production of generous harvests, although with less alcohol content than the average typical Spanish red wines.

Due to the variety and climate, temperature range and rainfall patterns, the wineries are denser than Rioja or Duero, producing a smooth wine, very similar to the wine of Bordeaux.
