Terrain and climate

The vineyards of El Bierzo are conditioned and characterised by the terrain, which marks the wines and landscapes character. The lands are divided into small or tiny plots, on areas with steep slopes ranging from the gentle contact of a foothill at 450 metres to the steep slopes of the dug terraces at the beginning of the glacis at 650 metres.

Moreover, the Atlantic squalls are tempered by the orography of the Ancares Mountains and generate a peculiar sub-humid climate, similar to the Mediterranean. The annual average rainfall is 650 mm and the mean temperature is 12.3 °C. The mean minimum temperature is 3.6 °C in the coldest months and the mean maximum is 23.6 °C hottest months.
